Small businesses add their own kind of magic to our communities—and to the holiday season too. It’s often on the shelves of a small local shop where we find that extra special gift, sure to make someone we care about feel known and loved. Compendium has the honor of working with many of these businesses and the dedicated, hardworking individuals behind them. Leading up to Small Business Saturday, we want to highlight and celebrate a few of these amazing local retailers.
Today’s retailer is Bliss, a gift and home boutique in Boulder, Colorado. We spoke with Michelle Vargo, comanager of Bliss, about the store’s background and what she hopes customers will discover when shopping. Here’s what Michelle shared:
Can you tell us a little about Bliss? What types of products does your store focus on?
Bliss features fabulous creations from local artisans and international brands. We strive to inspire our local community through local art and products.
What do you hope people will experience as they browse?
Whether it’s a good chuckle from our card section or the perfect gift for a loved one, Bliss brings joy to shoppers and browsers alike. We support many local artists and brands with noble missions, and we hope to connect people to the Boulder arts community through our store.
What is interesting about the neighborhood where your store is located?
Bliss is in the heart of downtown Boulder, just steps away from the famous Pearl Street walking mall, Boulder Creek Path, and Chautauqua Park. Pearl Street features a large community of local boutiques, which keep the downtown vibrant.
Is your store involved with any community organizations or events?
Bliss participates in the Downtown Boulder Partnership, a community organization that brings together downtown Boulder businesses. The Downtown Boulder Partnership spearheads community organization and keeps the local downtown business community alive and connected.
As you think about the magic of the holidays, what do you hope your store can offer more of in the world?
We hope to offer a renewed sense of joy in giving. Nothing means more than a gift picked out with the thought and care of a loved one in mind.

Our regulars and community! We love helping someone pick out the perfect gift.
